How to Replace an audi key programming G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace audi key the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor replaced is located near the transmission's edge over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can activate spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails the ECU will show the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It's a bit tricky to test as there are several pins on the connector and each one has different functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when the sensor is operating at its maximum. Check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a massive decrease in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine with no sparks, the ones that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one remains closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ i get zero ohm. I think the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car is able to start if the G28 is not plugged in and is running fine when it is plugged in but it still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've ruled everything else out. I'm afraid i may have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

Audi.jpgThe fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. Test them out - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's end). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that has to know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, for example. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you have a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will show the codes that could trigger an engine shut down.

A failing G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate speed counter for Audi etron key your gearbox and a gearbox which shifts faster than normal, or an unfire when in the gear. If you experience any of these issues, it is likely your sensor is deteriorating and should be replaced. They're inexpensive and easy to locate especially in the case of a Bosch unit like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this component is an option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the cause of a slew of problems in your car. It is a crucial part of the audi key copy's transmission because it communicates to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is turning. This sensor could cause the transmission to malfunction and other components of the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It sends signals via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate the flow of fuel and boost and also timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. It should show approximately 1000 ohms resistance between those two pins. This is a typical component across the Audi Tt Key Case 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC until the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best ones could be available in wrecking yards.
