The World of Warcraft item upgrade system allows players to improve the quality of armor, weapons and trinkets. A player can reroll an item into another upgradeable item by selecting it and pressing the green button with an arrow that indicates reroll. This alters the layout of the item's window and allow players to choose up to six items to "recycle". The item will be replaced by an item of level 1. Recycled items don't keep their level or the amount of resources used to upgrade them.

The maximum level of upgrade for an item is determined by the item's level and its quality. Rare and Epic items can be upgraded up to level nine, whereas common items are only upgraded up to level six.
