World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
item upgrades (groundevent4.bravejournal.net officially announced) are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it can increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and increase other stats.
Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its stats improve in value. This value is the total of all of its upgraded perks (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive dependent on who you employ and what you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.
Item level is a widely used measurement of power and is visible on all tooltips for items. It also serves as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is capped at a lower level). Players can see their average item level in their character sheet.
When deciding whether to buy or sell gear players can look at the level of an Best item upgrade. It's a measure of the item's damage and its quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor can be done using the item's level.
On your PC, you can see the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full description of the item, including its ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are a few theories about how the item level calculation is carried out. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It considers that different advantages are valued differently and that gems found in sockets increase the value of the item. This process could result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to Blizzard's actual item level.
However, this isn't the only factor that determines the ilvl of an Best item upgrader, as the size of the area the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an additional level to its haste rating or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have a higher value.
Item Stats
Item stats are a big element in what makes or breaks an item for players. The game makes use of them in various ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon, and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The stat mods of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by the player's level.
Upgrades to the item add by increasing certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey item, for example, will only be upgraded once however, items with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.
Affixes can also be used to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can provide the item extra damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or decreasing cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding an additional name to the item.
All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other methods of rerolling.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can select which of the available stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However each item will contain at least one stat in that range unless they are an item that is unique or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.
Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attaches, or select which stats to boost. Similar to base equipment, it will have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface wouldn't display all possible stats simultaneously.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player increases the probability of obtaining items as well as the properties spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is especially useful in early game runs since players tend to prioritize weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance that increases with each level and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons can be created or spawned with the Luck property, with the default value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to add another 40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Additionally there are certain items, such as the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be bought in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be costly and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their items if it is not successful.
When you upgrade an item, the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..
The luck of an item can influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has an average success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5%.
The item upgrade overlays are rendered above the items in the inventory. This can cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
