How to Replace an audi a3 keys G28 Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located near the transmission's edge over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The ECU uses this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can activate spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are audi tt key fob not working in sync, possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper timing chain. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test because there are different pins on the connector and they all have different functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms if the sensor is in full operation. Check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at full speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked with gasoline and the 4th was dry. I put tissue over each injector hole, and when i turn the engine on without sparks, the 3 that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one remains closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I got zero Ohm. I'm assuming the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much all other possibilities out. I'm afraid i may have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and they both work in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a junkyard or in a local parts store. Test them out by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to know the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about fuel injector timing etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you encounter a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could cause the engine shutting down.

A failing G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter or a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, and/or a misfire while in gear. If you have any of these issues it is likely that your sensor Audi Spare Key Replacement is failing and requires replacement. They are cheap and easy-to-find particularly if they're a Bosch unit like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this part is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine sensor could cause a variety of issues in your vehicle. It is a crucial part of the audi car key holder's transmission since it relays information to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this signal to regulate fuel and boost, and also to timigrate. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer. You can also check continuity between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these two points. This is a common feature across the Audi keys replacement cost 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 Du, so you might find some good ones in wrecking yards.
