How to Replace an audi spare key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a message to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 using an uncolored wire. The ECU utilizes this information to control boost and fuel. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and the position of the camshaft, so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jumpy chain link in the upper chain. However, the code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult as there are two different connector pins, and they have different functions but the best method to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is operational, it should be reading approximately 1000 ohms. If you're having issues with this component, look for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll i had massive power loss like the engine is out of gas or injectors aren't firing any more. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when I start the engine without sparks, the three that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one stays shut. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've eliminated everything else. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. Please let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

happy-smiling-woman-with-car-key-driving-2022-11-17-00-15-14-utc-min-scaled.jpgThe fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find the spare in a salvage shop or programmers a parts store. Test them out - put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make decisions about fuel injector timing etc. In order to do this it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor cost of audi key replacement (G28). If either of these go bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner that can cause the engine to shut down.

A damaged G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter and a gearbox which shifts faster than normal, and/or an unfire when in gear. If you experience any of these problems, it is likely that your sensor is going bad and needs replacing. The good news is that they are very cheap and easy to find, especially when you're looking at the Bosch sensor, which is what ours are. If you prefer, GM's version of this component is an option.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a myriad of issues in your car. It is an important part of the transmission in your audi a4 key replacement, as it transmits information to the ECU regarding how fast or slowly the engine is turning. If the sensor fails, it can disrupt the performance of the transmission as well as the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49, via an uncolored wire. The ECU is then able to process this signal to regulate fuel, timig, and boost, and also sends it on to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. There should be a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms in these areas. This is a typical part that is found across the replacement audi Key cost Uk 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good parts could be found in wrecking yards.
