Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar Best item upgrader, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and the current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers, for example.
