How to Replace an audi spare keys G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located at the top of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

woman-showing-the-car-keys-2022-12-16-22-09-32-utc-min-scaled.jpgLocated on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to control boost and fuel. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will show an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync, possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit challenging because there are two connector pins and they perform different functions but the most effective method to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. If the sensor is operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. Check for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, I experienced massive power loss like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors are not firing anymore. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I put a piece of tissue over each hole in the injector and when i turn the engine on without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump out. The 4th one remains shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. So i assume the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is 0.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've all other possibilities out. However, i'm afraid that i might have missed something. Let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find the spare in a salvage shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them - simply put your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines requires to know the speed and position of the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. In order to do this it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these sensors go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner which can lead to engine shutdown.

The signs of a failing G28 sensor include an inaccurate gearbox rev counter and gears that shift faster than normal and/or misfiring when you are in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these symptoms. The good thing is that they are very affordable and readily available, especially when you're looking at the Bosch model, like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this part is an option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be a cause for numerous issues in your car. It's a vital component of your audi key fob replacement cost's transmission, because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is spinning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It sends signals via a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure Near By examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should detect the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these points. This is a common feature across the audi a1 key replacement 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and audi Replacement key cost uk - www.northwestu.edu, 1995 RS2 Du You may also find good ones in wrecking yards.
